The best part..this is so easy! You don't have to balance blocks, measure portions, or count calories. The guidelines are very simple.

Foods You CAN eat:

Lean meat

Poultry

Fish

Seafood

Fruits (except DRIED fruit, as these always have ADDED sugar!)

Vegetables (except startchy tubers-potatoes)

One the meats, LEAN is the key, this includes chicken and fish..and Yes, red meat-beef, pork, organ meat and game meats. How can this be?? Paleo is not a fat free diet...it's a BAD fat free diet. In order to  get enough calories you should eat animal meat at every meal (along with fruits and veggies).

For ideal health you should eat fruits and vegetables with every meal, along with nuts, seeds, and avacados, and healthful oils. Nuts are richin calories so when trying to lose body fat, you should eat only 4 oz of nuts per day. Also, except walnuts, almost all nuts have high levels of omega 6 fats and can unbalance your ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fats.

Approved Fruits: apples, apricots, avacados, banannas, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, cantalope, cassava melon, cherries, carambola, cranberries, figs, gooseberries, grapefruit, grapes, guava, honeydew melon, kiwi, lemon, lime, lychee, manago, nectarine, orange, papaya, passion fruit, peaches, pears, persimmion, pineapple, plums, pomegranate, raspberries, rhubard, start fruit, strawberries, tangerine, and watermelon.

Approved Vegetables: artichoke, asparagas, beet greens, beets, bell peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, collards, cucumber, dandelion, eggplant, endive, green onions, lettuce, mushrooms, mustard greens, onions, parsley, parsnip, peppers, pumpkin, purslane, radish, rutabage, seaweed, spinach, squash (all kinds), swiss chard, tomatillos, tomatos, turnips, turnip greens, and watercress.

Approved Nuts/Seeds: almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and walnuts (all un-salted of course)

Peanuts are legumes, and are not on the list. Remember...for fat loss..no more than 4oz of nuts per day.

Foods to eat in moderation: olives, avacado, walnuts,  and flaxseed (less than 4 tbsp a day)

Approved Beverages: Tea, Water

If you have any questions or concers, please use this forum to post those questions.

Lindsay..You do not have to nuts. They are on the Paleo approved list but you can avoid them, especially if there is an allergy. Eat some seeds, some avacado, also cook with olive oil, avacado oil, or flaxseed oil and you will get plenty of healthy (Omega 9's and 3's)fats.

I don't see coconut in the list. But it's ok, right?

Aldo, I am sorry to tell you that would have to be a deduction for salt. Those birds are loaded with added sodium and who knows what else. Get a grill, a George Forman grill or some large surface grill and cook a bunch of meat at one time. Package it in tupperware and eat it over the course of several days. Use lemon, lime juice, olive oil and fresh herbs to season the meat. YOU CAN DO IT! Paleo man was not lazy!

Carrie, is baking powder and/or baking soda allowed? The muffin recipe I have calls for both. I think I might just try it with neither. Leaving out the baking soda, powder, salt and agave, its just almond flour, pmpkin, eggs , cinnamon and egg white protein. And shellfish - oysters, shrimp, mussels, squid, crab - those are all ok?

Alma, negative on baking soda and baking powder for contest purposes. Yes on all the fresh fish and sea food.

in re-reading the approved foods, I noted that you said to eat nuts/seeds with each meal. Are you saying we should add some almonds or other nuts with each main meal, or is it ok to jut have the nuts/seeds as snacks?

The main point is to include heahtly fats with every meal/snack. If you have avacado with a meal it would not be necessary to eat the nuts/seeds too. Make sense? Most people do not get enough healthy fat and way to much unhealthy saturated fat.

Thanks Carrie. That does make sense. Something I need to look at after reviewing my meals from the week.
